REGIONAL ANAESTHESIA Comparison between ultrasound-guided transversus abdominis plane and conventional ilioinguinal/ iliohypogastric nerve blocks for day-case open inguinal hernia repair
نویسندگان
چکیده
Editor’s key points † This randomized, singleblinded study compared two differents local anaesthetic blocks for hernia repair. † Patients received either USguided transversus abdominis plane (TAP) block or blinded ilioinguinal/ iliohypogastric nerve (IHN) blocks. † Ultrasound-guided TAP block produces less pain until 24 h with an opioidsparing effect without differences at 3 and 6 months after surgery. † Although the results are in some respects unsurprising, this is the first study to compare US-guided TAP block with IHN block in adult males undergoing inguinal hernia repair. Background. Transversus abdominis plane (TAP) block has been reported to provide effective analgesia after lower abdominal surgery, but there are few data comparing ilioinguinal/iliohypogastric nerve (IHN) block with ultrasound-guided TAP block in patients undergoing inguinal hernia repair.

Abstract Aims and background: The purpose of this study was to compare ultrasound-guided ilioinguinal/iliohypogastric nerve block and transversus abdominis plane block for postoperative pain control after open inguinal hernia repair. Materials and methods: 88 patients undergoing open inguinal hernia surgery in Rasoul e Akram Hospital were randomly assigned into two groups. One group rece...

متن کاملUtility of ultrasound-guided transversus abdominis plane block for day-case inguinal hernia repair
BACKGROUND The transversus abdominis plane (TAP) block is a regional anesthesia technique that effectively reduces the pain intensity and use of analgesia in abdominal surgery. The aim of this study was to determine the utility of the ultrasound-guided TAP block in improving the efficacy of the ultrasound-guided ilioinguinal/iliohypogastric nerve (IIN/IHN) block for intraoperative anesthesia an...
متن کاملImproved perioperative analgesia with ultrasound-guided ilioinguinal/iliohypogastric nerve or transversus abdominis plane block for open inguinal surgery: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
[Purpose] Ultrasound-guided ilioinguinal/iliohypogastric (II/IH) nerve and transversus abdominis plane (TAP) blocks have been increasingly utilized in patients for perioperative analgesia. We conducted this meta-analysis to evaluate the clinical efficacy of ultrasound-guided II/IH nerve or TAP blocks for perioperative analgesia in patients undergoing open inguinal surgery. [Subjects and Methods...
متن کاملComparative Effectiveness of Two Ultrasound-Guided Regional Block Techniques for Surgical Anesthesia in Open Unilateral Inguinal Hernia Repair.
Transversus abdominis plane (TAP) and ilioinguinal/iliohypogastric (II/IH) nerve blocks have been described as analgesic adjuncts for inguinal hernia repair, but the efficacy of these techniques in providing intraoperative anesthesia, either individually or together, is not known. We designed this retrospective cohort study to test the hypothesis that combining TAP and II/IH nerve blocks ("doub...
